Map Navigation
Knowledge of zooming in and out and movement throughout the map is essential for navigation. There are three ways one can zoom in and out of areas on the map. Using a track pad, pinch your fingers together to zoom out and spread your fingers outward to zoom in. Using a mouse, scroll the wheel forward to zoom in and backward to zoom out. For touch screens, there is also a + and a – in the lower right corner of the map that allows you to zoom in and out. Similar to zooming in and out, there are three ways one can move throughout the map. Using a laptop with a track pad, click on the map and drag your finger on the track pad in the direction you’d like to move. Using a mouse, click on the map and drag the mouse in the direction you’d like to move. On a touch screen, hold your finger down on the map and drag your finger in the direction you'd like to move.
Menu
In the upper right corner of the map, there is a menu section like the image above. Starting from the left, the menu contains a search button, a button to return to home, the legend of map boundaries, map layers, and a selection of various basemaps. Each menu option is detailed in the following sections.
The Map Tools, Layers, and Filters sections outline the map features in more detail, use the arrow navigation bars ( ) to the left and right of this window to browse to those sections.
Map Tools
Search: Enter an address or a place (ex. town/city, county, etc.) and zoom to that location. See example image below
Home: Returns the map to the same focus area and zoom level shown when first opening the map
Legend: The legend displays the various symbols on a map or the colors that are used in a chart. Note that the legend will change based on layer selections and boundaries.
Layer List: Show/hide layers in the map. See the next page for more information about using this function
Basemap: Switch between various basemap or reference map options such as imagery, streets, topography, navigation, and many more. Users can scroll up and down, and left to right to view and select from basemap options. See example image below for context.
Layer Groups
The layers used in this map are divided into 7 main categories shown below.

Expand Layer Groups
The primary data layers are displayed when clicking the layers icon. To view sublayers beneath the primary layers, click the arrow next to the layer title. Toggling the arrow next to layers allows the users to expand and collapse sublayers associated with the selected layer. | |
Show/Hide Layers
Users can show and hide layers on the map by clicking the eye icon next to layers and sublayers. The eye icon with a slash through it means that the layer is not visible. The eye icon with the eye and no slash through it means that the layer is visible. It is important to note that in order to view layers on the map, the eye icon must be clicked next to both the layer and the sublayer the user wishes to view. Clicking the eye icon next to only the layer or the sublayer will not display the data on the map. |

Filters
Filters are located along the left side of the screen and can be accessed by clicking the small gray arrow (see image below). Clicking the arrow expands the filter ribbon. Users can pin the filter ribbon by clicking the blue pin in the upper right corner.
To view and use the filters, users must click the filter and select from the various options. For filters with more than 10 options, users can use the search feature within the filter ribbon.
